Of course, I thought I had already overcome my self doubt, but I guess I still have some growing to do. Story of my life! Nevertheless, I think you’ll find this as helpful as I did.

The Dream
I walked outside and noticed that traffic was at a literal stand-still. The lights at the intersection weren’t even changing!
Weird.
I didn’t know exactly what I had to do, but I knew that there was somewhere that I needed to be.
So, I started walking up the sidewalk, which happened to be on an unreasonably steep hill. And the further I walked, the steeper it got.
I stopped and thought about just grabbing my car, but there was no way that I was going to sit in traffic that clearly wasn’t going anywhere.
Now, this walk wasn’t just physically difficult, it was also mentally taxing.
Not only was I walking up a steep hill in the hot sun, but I was also walking in front of A LOT of people sitting in their cars. Oh, and I should mention…
I was also in my underwear.
This is what it felt like walking in my underwear in my dream. Erykah Badu, filming the music video for ‘Window Seat’ with “Evolve” written on her back.
Embarrassing….
I tried acting normal, like maybe no one would notice my lack of pants.
But the stares pierced through my soul, even though every window was tinted and I couldn’t actually see anyone’s eyes looking at me directly.
I just felt the stares. You know that feeling that you get when you think someone’s watching you? Yeah, that.
Part of me wanted to just disappear, but something inside of me pressed forward because I knew that there was somewhere that I really needed to be.
I was determined.
The hill got steeper and steeper to the point that I needed to use my hands and feet to climb it.
Eventually, the walk became so difficult that I had to put more focus on getting up the hill, than on the people that may or may not have been staring at me.
When I finally made it to the top, the hill flattened out and I forgot all about my humiliation. At that point, all I felt was fulfillment.
Then I woke up.
How Does This Relate To Overcoming Self Doubt?
The dream represents our journey throughout life.
You may not know exactly what your life’s purpose is, but you feel a sense of duty to find out and live up to your full potential.
Just like, in the dream, I didn’t know exactly what I needed to do, but I felt compelled to set out and figure it out.
The cars represent everyone in life trying to achieve their goals.
We’re all in this life searching for our purpose, trying to get somewhere.
The road is congested because it represents the overly saturated route that EVERYONE chooses to follow to be successful.
For example, most people go off to college and get a degree to get a better career.
I’m not saying that college is bad, but because so many people do it, the workforce is now oversaturated with people and their degrees.
Nowadays, you need a Master’s degree or some sort of certification to stand out.
What’s even more interesting is that about 41% of these same college graduates aren’t even working in a job that requires a degree.
Had they gone a different route, they would have less debt and be closer to figuring out their purpose in life. Yet, like the cars in the dream, their careers are moving slowly, if at all.
Again, I’m not against college, I actually have a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media.
However, there may be a better way to find your life’s purpose than by doing what everyone else does.
Take the author of this post for example. She doesn’t have a degree, yet she’s VERY successful. And according to this, some of the wealthiest and most influential entrepreneurs actually dropped out of college.
Go figure!
What these successful people have in common is that they took the sidewalk, rather than the congested road.
They were confident enough to carve out their own route and they’ve made it much farther than everyone else!
Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
The point is, create your own path.
If you follow the crowd, chances are, you’ll never reach your goals fast enough. But if you pave your own path, then the chances of you getting there are a lot higher.
Granted, it’ll be harder, but if you stay persistent and move confidently without self doubt, then you’ll get where you’re going.
As you learned in my dream, the only way I made it up that hill was by focusing on my path and not everyone else’s. This means that there’s no room for doubt or regret.

The underwear in the dream represents vulnerability.
Doing things you’re passionate about may be nerve-wracking.
That’s because you’re giving the world an opportunity to judge a very intimate part of yourself. A part of yourself that you hold near and dear.
When you have anxiety, this feeling gets amplified times 1000!
If you don’t know what being vulnerable feels like when you have anxiety, just imagine exposing your chest area in a gunfight, you feel defenseless and uneasy.
It’s kind of intimidating.
Especially if you’re not very confident about that part of yourself just yet. This is where self doubt comes in and shuts everything down.

But if you take your mind off of what people may be thinking and focus on your journey, you’ll get a lot farther along.
The hill got steeper in the dream because life will get tougher the closer you get to success.
As you get further along in your journey, things are going to get harder, that’s just reality.
You could always sit in the car, stuck in traffic like everyone else did in the dream. OR, you can put your hands to the pavement, and make some real moves happen.
The tinted windows and that feeling of being stared at represents the fear of judgement.
If you remember in the dream, I couldn’t see whether or not people were even staring at me, it was more of an internal feeling.
Most of the time, this is the case. You never really know if people are judging you or if they’re admiring you, so why waste time on it at all?
I mean, let’s be honest, when you start carving out your own path, people are going to notice.
Your mom’s going to be disappointed if you drop out of college. Your friends are going to wonder why you quit your secure job to be a freelancer.
It comes with the territory because it’s just uncommon for someone to choose the harder path… hence, “the one less traveled by.”
But that’s also why there are less successful people in the world than there could be.
In Conclusion
It’s funny how much you can learn from a dream.
This one taught me exactly what it takes to overcome self doubt and I hope you picked up some useful tips too.
If this post lit a fire under you to get moving in your journey, let me know in the comments!
Peace.

Nice one, I love how you remembered your dream clearly, and your interpretation is great. So much lesson in it.
I wrote down everything I could remember immediately when I woke up. There was a lot more to it, but this was the condensed version lol
Live life unapologetically- couldn’t agree more with this! I was that person who always was concerned about other’s opinions, views about work, look practically everything. But now, I don’t give a damn! Not sure why these days I don’t dream anymore 😕
You’re probably really exhausted. Try and regulate your sleep and see if that helps. Also, if you smoke or drink, that can affect your ability to remember your dreams.
Your dream really preached! I literally just told my friend you can’t evolve unless you get over what other people think about YOUR JOURNEY. We gotta walk strong and bold like motha Erykah that you might be out there fully exposed and embarrassed but keep going and don’t let the stares and whispers Stop your journey.
Amen! All facts.
Could you imagine being so exposed and just not giving a …. care… we’re going to say care here. I think that dream was rather bad-ass if I do say so myself. I think going along your journey and not caring what others think of you is makes you one tough cookie.
Absolutely! Lol it’s not the easiest thing to do, but it’s necessary to be successful.
Those thoughts are really true. I couldn’t agree more. We must not spend lot of time in regrets and be imprisoned in the past.
Exactly, I’ve lived in the past for way too long! It’s time to start living in the moment.
Adreanne, you are a talented writer. This article is a true inspiration with a great motto in mind. We do need to remember to live by our own judgment.
Thanks so much! This made me smile 😊
I didn’t have a dream like that but I agree with the interpretation. Sometimes we think too much about other’s opinions that’s why it seems like we are stuck in a traffic that’s ain’t movin. It doesn’t serves as so we should let go.
Very true!
LOVE THIS MORNING. SUCH OVERFLOWING WITH GOOD VIBES AND THE POSTS IVE BEEN READING ARE ALL ABOUT BOOSTING ONE’S CONFIDENCE.
Dreams are thoughts or even messages that we need to hear. I loved your perspective in this article.
Thanks!
Dreams are nothing more than reminiscences of our daily thoughts put into context by our brains. It was your brain telling you what you already knew deep inside. Self doubt exists in every person, even the most confident of us. It’s how we choose to deal with it that matters.
Very true
I love the positivity of this article and it’s actually inspires me to live a life not thinking of what other people say. Thanks for sharing
Absolutely! That’s the best kind of life to live lol
I used to be so concerned about the people around me and what they say about my life, but I just had to stop because it was really toxic. It destroys focus, that’s supposed to be on more important things.
I like what you said, to live unapologetically. I hope I learn that for my own good.
I’m sure you will. And thanks for reading!
Dreams are so crazy – I haven’t had a dream like that yet but last night I had a dream that my tooth was falling out piece by piece…. it was very strange! lol
Lol maybe that’s a sign that you should go to the dentist 🦷 (now I’m kind of curious if I’m like some sort of psychic that can interpret dreams!)
Dreams are the same for me. If I remember it and bother me for the whole day, I am sure there is a message for me.
There is! Pay more attention. It helps to write it down (better in the mornings when you first get up).
Hello! Thanks for sharing. That’s a nice motivational post. Your blog have nice information, I got good ideas from this amazing blog.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it.
Wow! That speaks volume. Your dream was funny but it certainly symbolizes life so well – we are fighting our own battles while people just look at us! I loved your post and opinion on dreams and life!
Thanks so much!
This is a very new point of view.
I did enjoy reading the post which is slightly different about self doubt.
Keep it up.
Thanks, I’m glad you like it
I like the positivity. It is something that I am trying hard to achieve but I am getting there.
Such an inspirational message. I loved the way you portrayed a positive attitude through your dreams. We must recognize ourselves and not think about what the whole world has to say. Our inner self has a lot more strength and we must appreciate it.
That’s absolutely right! It’s tough to filter out other people’s opinions, but it’s so necessary.
I love that quote “… life gets tougher… either we adapt or crumble under the pressure”. I can relate and always say when we fall down there is nowhere else to go but up. Therefore, rise and start over.
Yes girl! And that mentality “nowhere to go but up” is what’s going to get us to the next level. Good vibes only.
“live life unapologetically”… a-freaking-men!! Absolutely love this! Also, I naked naked and underwear dreams ALL the time
Thanks a lot for sharing Adreanne, this is very interesting…I dream a lot but i never paid attention to the meaning of my dreams, maybe i should.
You definitely should! It’s like your subconscious talking to you. That may seem very abstract at first, but it’s very true. Things we’ve buried in our heads and have forgotten about are manifested in our dreams if they’re important enough to us.
When I am stresses or super busy I tend to have the most vivid dreams. I know they are messages and way for us to reflect when we don’t take our daytime to do it
totally agree, we are all different and we all have our own opinions. We need to be less judgemental on ourselves.
Very true. We gotta love ourselves more💕
I think I read something about this before. They said that the dream represents what we truly feel. It kind of projects what we feel as sometimes we can’t find the right words to explain it. You know what I mean?
Exactly! Dreams are like our subconscious’ way of speaking to us. Things that we may have buried deep inside our minds and forgotten about will manifest in our dreams. I kind of like interpreting what they mean.
Oh my goodness… I love this post! I have had dreams like that I remember having them in High School and going to school without something on…. and you wake up in a panic. It is true too…what you say about the meaning a I definitely worried too much about what others thought, especially in those years. I have adapted for sure and enjoyed this insightful post 🙂
Heck yea, these dreams are so embarrassing lol glad they’re only dreams! Glad you enjoyed it
Well, this was a refreshing change from all the usual blog points of view. Nicely down. Dreams are amazing, aren’t they?
They really are. If I ever have one that I remember longer than usual, than it probably meant something important.
I love this. Erykah Badu is amazing too. I have had dreams like that before too. Being vulnerable…
It’s not easy being vulnerable, right? I’m soo not used to it, but I know that if I wanna be a blogger, it comes with the territory..
This is very interesting and a must-read. We often worry about how our friends, relatives, and society will think and comment. And we stop living life as per our own desire and wish. Rightly said we need to adapt or we will get cooked under pressure. Thanks for reminding.
No problem. Thanks for reading! 🙌🏽
