Today is World Kindness Day, an internationally observed day that promotes more kindness in the world. It’s meant to highlight the power of positivity. It’s literally one of my favorite things about the holidays.
Kindness & Positivity
It’s a proven fact that being kind makes you feel happy.
You can think of World Kindness Day as a day for giving, not only to others, but to yourself. Give yourself the ability to feel good by being kind. It’s literally the easiest way to feel better if you’re having a bad day.
The Ripple Effect
Did you know that when you’re kind to someone, that person is then more likely to be kind to someone else? This is called the Ripple Effect.
Think of the world as one big ocean of energy. If you drop something in the water, no matter how big or small, the water around it will ripple out until the whole body of water is in harmonious motion. Likewise, one act of kindness will send waves of positive energy into the world. And with enough people doing this, the world can really become a more positive place.
Challenge yourself to be intentionally kind at least once per day until Thanksgiving. It’s really simple. I’ve even given you 10 ways to get started.
10 Ways to be Kind Without Spending a Dime
- Check up on a friend.
- Compliment someone.
- Drive less aggressively.
- Talk to someone new.
- Try and make someone smile.
- Let someone with fewer items go ahead of you in the checkout line.
- Recommend a friend’s business.
- Donate old clothes.
- Genuinely ask about how someone’s feeling.
- Smile.
If you think I missed something good, feel free to share, I’m all ears! Also, did you know about World Kindness Day before reading this post? Let me know in the comments.
Peace.

I love these simple tips to spread kindness.
Love this! And that you wrote it. Makes me smile. Thank you!
Love this! Yes, I think small acts of kindness are the way to go and can really make a difference in someone’s day. We should also treat ourselves to some Kindness because that’s often overlooked and we don’t always see it as a way to help others but it does. The ripple effect!
Yes ma’am! It’s so important, but so overlooked and taken for granted.
These are all such great reminders. Such simple ideas but I think as life gets so busy it’s easy to look inward. And I couldn’t agree with you more about the ripple effect! Thanks for spreading kindness in the world by encouraging others to do the same!!!
Absolutely! I know that the stress from my job makes me less pleasant at times, so it’s nice to have this day to remember to spread positivity and not get wrapped up in the negativity.
I’m so glad I found your blog today! I too am celebrating ‘World Kindness Day’ and love it when I see people who do the same. These are great tips that everyone should be able to do with ease and you’re right, you don’t have to spend any money to be genuinely kind. Everyone needs kindness in their day! Many blessings.
Thanks Beth! Seeing your comment actually brightened my day a bit. I’m glad you stopped by! Don’t be a stranger 😇
This is a great list. People have been letting me go ahead of them in checkout lines a lot lately (having only 1-2 items in my hands), and I’ve been so surprised at the thoughtful gesture.
I wish celebratory days like these would spread and become a bigger deal. It would certainly make the world a kinder place to be!
Yesss! People all over should know about this. It could bring us all together!
I never knew about World Kindness Day!
Thanks for sharing that.
Funny enough I donate clothes whenever I need to declutter our closets or when someone gives me too.
And I compliment people too because we all need a little pick me up sometimes.
Great post.
Between, I love your write up on your homepage. It is Beautiful!
Aww thanks for that! 💕 And yea, I just found out about World Kindness Day (seems like nowadays, there’s a day for everything! But this is something I can stand behind lol)
I always compliment people when I can, I know that so many people struggle with self esteem so I like making them feel appreciated
That’s very nice of you. I’ve struggled with my own self esteem, so I can relate to how good it feels to receive a random, genuine compliment.
